Customise where settings stop being enough

A theme setting is preferable to custom code when it already solves the requirement. I review your current theme, installed apps and desired changes before proposing development. This helps identify whether the issue is configuration, content or a missing feature.

Typical scopes include product information layouts, collection presentation and reusable campaign sections. A complete bespoke theme is a different scope from a focused adjustment to an existing theme.

Define the design and editing needs

We agree the layout, responsive behaviour and content your staff should control. A section might need image selection, text fields and optional blocks, while a product template may use metafields for structured information.

The implementation plan identifies app dependencies and theme areas that may be affected by future vendor updates. Existing custom code is reviewed before layering another change onto it.

Build on an unpublished theme copy

I develop and review changes in a separate theme copy where available, keeping the live storefront stable during normal development. Liquid, section schemas, templates and supporting styles are used according to the theme’s structure.

The scope includes relevant interaction states and responsive behaviour. JavaScript is added where needed, with care around scripts already introduced by the theme and apps.

Check commerce and editing behaviour

Verification covers the affected templates, variants, add-to-cart behaviour and any app blocks involved in the change. The theme editor is checked so staff can use the new controls without modifying code.

I review mobile layouts, keyboard interaction and the effect on page loading. Theme changes cannot control every external app script, and any unresolved dependency is explained before publication.

Clear changes and a manageable handover

You receive the agreed theme modifications, reusable section controls, responsive adjustments and a short change log. The handover explains how to edit the new content and which files were modified.

We agree the publication step and a fallback theme before release. Future theme vendor updates may need review to carry custom changes forward; they are not automatically compatible with every modification.

Share the exact storefront problem

Send your store URL, theme name, design reference and the templates involved. Explain what your staff need to edit and which apps affect that area. A precise change request helps distinguish a small section build from a broader redesign.
